Most wanted pusher in Nueva Vizcaya arrested

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Nueva Vizcaya’s alleged number one illegal drugs dealer has been arrested on Thursday after months of surveillance operations. Eric Fernandez, who is said to be the supplier of shabu in the whole province, was arrested in Santo Domingo Village in Bayombong during a buy-bust operation after seven months of surveillance, said Bambang town police chief Senior Inspector Janton Albano. Fernandez was caught with P20, 000 marked money, drug paraphernalia, and several sachets of shabu. Police take over from PDEA “The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was supposed to handle this case but I am not sure why they dropped it so we took over and started following the activities of (Eric) Fernandez last June. It took that long because we want to be very careful, he is a very smart (drug) pusher," Albano said, adding that the support funds used to ensure the success of the entire operation, including the marked money, even came from his own pocket. In an earlier deposition, Fernandez confessed that the illegal drugs were being sourced in Santiago City in neighboring Isabela province, the region’s so-called “shabu tiangge," according to Albano. Possible life sentence Nueva Vizcaya provincial prosecutor Edilberto Calip told GMANews.TV that the suspect, who has links with Region 2’s powerful drug syndicates, “has been arrested several times in the past but always managed to post bail." With the volume of shabu caught in Fernandez’s possession, however, Albano said “he could be spending a lifetime behind bars." Fernandez is now facing criminal charges for violating provisions in Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. - Floro Taguinod, GMANews.TV
