Mining firm suspended after worker dies

The operations of a mining firm in Cebu were suspended after one of its coal miners was buried alive when the ground he was standing on collapsed. Radio dzXL reported that Celso Perez, 31, died after being buried alive on Monday at the coal mining site of SKI Energy Resources Inc. (SERI) in Danao City in Cebu. A report of Sun Star Cebu says the Department of Energy-Region VII in Central Visayas suspended SERI’s operations following the accident. The country's Catholic bishops have been calling for the review of the Philippine mining act. Earlier the bishops urged the government to form a “Truth Commission" to investigate environmental crimes including mining disasters. –VVP, GMANews.TV
