Ambush leaves Cagayan vice-governor's sis-in-law critical, 1 dead


SANTIAGO CITY, ISABELA – A sister in law of Cagayan Vice-Governor Leonides Fausto is in critical condition after the car she was riding in was ambushed Friday night. Police Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca said that Lenny Fausto was with her driver Sofronio Mamba and a certain Michael Pagaduan when their vehicle was waylaid by a still undetermined number of suspects along the national highway in Alabiao village, Tuao, Cagayan. The three victims were immediately rushed to the Saint Paul’s Hospital in Tuguegarao City were Mamba was declared dead-on-arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds. Joint elements from the Tuao and Piat police stations and composite teams from the army’s 17th Infantry Battalion were deployed to augment security forces in and along the perimeter of Tuao town. The lone fatality in the ambush is a close relative of former congressman Manuel Mamba of Cagayan’s 3rd district and Vice Governor Fausto who are both first cousins but have since become estranged to each other due to the latter’s association with the former’s political rival Governor Alvaro Antonio. - TJD, GMANews.TV
