Report: Newly-elected barangay captain shot dead in Ilocos Sur

A newly-elected barangay captain was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on Friday while riding a motorcycle with his wife and child in Ilocos Sur, a radio report said. Benito Tolentino, newly-elected captain of Barangay Napo in Sto. Domingo town, died on the spot after he was shot several times while riding a motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Parada, also in Sto. Domingo town, a Bombo Radyo report said. Tolentino’s wife and child, who were on board the same motorcycle the victim was riding, survived the attack but sustained minor injuries, the report added. The unidentified gunman fled to an unspecified location after the incident. He is currently being pursued by authorities, according to the report. Tolentino’s ambush came days after another reelected barangay captain, Vicente Lacbayug, was gunned down by two unidentified suspects in a cemetery in Masbate. Ilocos Sur police are still determining whether Tolentino’s killing was related to the recent elections, the report said. – VVP, GMANews.TV
