NDRRMC: 'Mina' triggers landslide in Zamboanga Sur

Monsoon rain enhanced by Tropical cyclone "Mina" (Nanmadol) triggered a landslide in Zamboanga del Sur province Tuesday night, rendering the road there impassable. But no one was initially reported injured in the landslide, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday. The NDRRMC said the landslide caused by rain spawned by Tropical Storm Mina occurred at Tugaya village in Aurora town in Zamboanga del Sur at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Aurora Mayor Ernesto Cabahug went to the area to assess the extent of damage. For its part, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ordered the provincial engineer's office and Municipal Planning Development Officer to coordinate clearing operations. It said the road near the area was not passable while some electrical posts were damaged. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said a flash flood hit Sipalay City in Negros Occidental in Wester Visayas at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday due to the heavy monsoon rain. But it said the floodwaters subsided as of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. — LBG, GMA News
