Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.1 quake jolts Mindanao area


A magnitude-5.1 quake hit the Cotabato area in Mindanao early Sunday, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 7:27 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was traced to 58 km southwest of Dulawan in Cotabato. However, it did not immediately specify areas where the quake was felt. Phivolcs said no damage or aftershock was expected. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 4.9. USGS traced the epicenter to:

  • 79 km southwest of Cotabato
  • 130 km south-southeast of Pagadian
  • 166 km west-northwest of General Santos City
  • 928 km south-southeast of Manila
