PAGASA: Weather in Visayas, Mindanao may improve Wednesday

Residents in the Visayas and Mindanao who are now experiencing rain can expect the weather to improve on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday evening.   On its Twitter account, PAGASA said rainy weather will remain over Leyte on Tuesday due to the tail-end of a cold front.   “Sa Visayas at Mindanao, hanggang bukas po na makakaranas na maulap na may pag-ulan... By Wednesday, magiging maganda ang panahon,” it said.   PAGASA also maintained that there is no cyclone in Philippine territory at this time, and that the rain over parts of Visayas and Mindanao are due to the low-pressure area (LPA) and tail-end of a cold front.   PAGASA earlier said the LPA in the southern area is likely to weaken Tuesday.   PAGASA’s 5 p.m. bulletin said that as of 2 p.m., the LPA was estimated at 120 km southwest of Cotabato City, while a tail-end of a cold front is affecting Visayas.   “Eastern Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers while the rest of Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with light rains. Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides,” it said.   Also, moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to occasionally strong coming from the northeast with moderate to occasionally rough seas.   On the other hand, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.   “Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said. — KBK, GMA News
