NDRRMC: Death toll from ComVal landslide up to 36


The death toll from the landslide that buried a gold panning area in Compostela Valley last week rose to 36 Tuesday, even as 36 more remain missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
 
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said 30 of the 36 have been identified, even as more groups continued to help in search operations for survivors or bodies.
 
According to the update, two of the more recent fatalities were identified as:
  • Garnado Otfon, 58, of the Relocation Site in Bgy. Napnapan in Pantukan
  • Paquito Piayo, 37, of Diat Napnapan in Pantukan
Both were previously reported missing, the NDRRMC said.
 
The landslide occurred last Jan. 5 at 3 a.m., at the hilly portion of Sitio Diat 1 to Diat 700 in Bgy. Napnapan in Pantukan town.
 
The NDRRMC noted the landslide came after days of continuous rain. –KG, GMA News
