Zamboanga del Norte town mayor abducted

Mayor Jeffrey Lim of Salug town in Zamboanga del Norte was abducted Monday night by at least ten people wearing bonnets.
The abduction happened at about 7 p.m. while Lim was on his way to the Salug Integrated bus terminal.

A yellow van used in the kidnapping was later found burned and abandoned in Bgy. Caracol, according to Philippine Army 102nd Brigade commander Col. Gerry Barrientos.

Authorities said the persons who abducted Lim posed as policemen, but may be rogue Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels.

The motive of the abduction is still unknown.

Army and police personnel are conducting rescue operations, said Lt. Col. Randolf Cabangbang of the Western Mindanao Command.

All police stations in the area have been placed on red alert. Abduction of Lingig mayor Mayor Lim's abduction came eight months after suspected New People's Army rebels seized Lingig, Surigao del Sur Mayor Henry Dano and his two military escorts in August last year.  Dano and his escorts were eventually released in October last year at the boundary of Agusan del Sur and Compostela Valley.  – Mariz Revales/KG/RSJ, GMA News
