Heavy rain prompts Cavite town to suspend afternoon classes

Heavy rain on Monday morning prompted a town in Cavite province to suspend afternoon classes in all levels for the day.

Rosario town mayor Jose Ricafrente Jr. said the suspension covers all levels in public and private schools, radio dzBB reported.

The mayor also advised parents of pupils who already went to school early Monday for morning classes to fetch them once the rain subsides.

Classes in most parts of Luzon resumed Monday, a week after heavy rain forced the suspension of classes and even work.

But classes in the city of Marikina and Hagonoy, Bulacan as well as some schools in Metro Manila remained suspended on Monday.

Several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, are still reeling from the effects of heavy monsoon rain and floods last week.

At least 92 people had been killed in the wake of last week's rain and floods.

But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of a possible repeat of monsoon-enhanced rain with the entry of a weather disturbance that intensified into tropical depression "Helen.". –KG, GMA News
