Binga, Magat dams keep gates open amid forecast of more rain


Binga and Magat Dams in Northern Luzon kept their gates open to let out excess water, amid forecasts of more rain over parts of Luzon on Friday.
 
PAGASA's update for Friday showed Binga, located in Benguet, kept one gate open at 0.6 meter while Magat, located in the Ifugao-Isabela area, kept two gates open.
 
As of 6 a.m. Friday, PAGASA said Binga's water level was at 574.70 meters, higher than the 574.50 meters recorded Thursday.
 
This was below the dam's 575-meter water level. Binga had also kept one gate open at 0.6 meter on Wednesday and Thursday.
 
Magat Dam's water level was at 192.24 meters as of 6 a.m. Friday, down from 192.90 meters on Thursday.
 
The high water level at Magat Dam is 193 meters. On Thursday, Magat had kept two gates open.
 
PAGASA's forecast for Friday had included occasional light to moderate rain in Ilocos and Cagayan Valley, with possible moderate to heavy rain during thunderstorms. –KG, GMA News
