Coast Guard ship damaged in freak accident off Palawan

A monitoring ship of the Philippine Coast Guard was damaged after being accidentally hit by a cargo vessel off Palawan, a radio report said Friday. The incident occurred while the cargo vessel "MV John Oliver" was docking at Puerto Princesa City port, radio dzBB's Palawan affiliate James Viernes reported. Damaged by the accident was the Coast Guard monitoring vessel MCS-3002, the report added. No one was initially reported injured in the incident. An initial investigation showed the MCS-3002 was anchored off Puerto Princesa City when the cargo vessel hit its bow (front part) while docking. The MCS-3002 is used primarily to patrol and deter poachers operating off the Palawan area. — LBG, GMA News
