Calabarzon PNP probe Cavite police on Kawit massacre

Police in Southern Luzon are looking into alleged lapses by Cavite police in responding to a massacre where a gunman killed at least seven people before he himself was gunned down by responding police teams.

 

Calabarzon regional police director Chief Superintendent James Melad went to the site of the incident before dawn Saturday to inspect the area, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

 

Melad was quoted in the report as saying they will not spare any police personnel who may be found negligent and not responding promptly to the incident.

 

The report said the investigation may touch on the supposed delayed reaction by Kawit police to the incident.

 

It also said Kawit police head Chief Inspector Joel Saliba may face administrative relief if found liable.

 

But Melad said his initial findings point to delay of reporting of the shooting from residents.

 

On Friday, Ronald Bae went on a shooting spree in Barangay Tabon 1 in Kawit, gunning down at least seven people - some of them children - and wounding at least nine others.

 

As of early Saturday, Tabon 1 village was a virtual ghost town, the report said.

 

Meanwhile, Bae's wife Maria Elena asked for forgiveness from families of the massacre victims.

 

'Parang demonyo'

 

Meanwhile, Bae's supposed companion, John Paul Lopez, told Melad that Bae used drugs the night before he went on his rampage.
