Davao City suspends Monday classes due to expected rain

Citing expected rain showers and thunderstorms, the Davao City government on Sunday announced the suspension of classes for Monday, Jan. 21. In a post on its Twitter account, the Davao City government said the class suspension covers kindergarten to high school levels. "On the basis of the PAGASA 24-hour Public Weather Forecast issued at 5am on January 20, 2013, all classes are SUSPENDED tomorrow, January 21, Monday from KINDERGARTEN TO HIGH SCHOOL," it said. PAGASA's 5 a.m. Sunday bulletin, which the city government cited as the basis of the suspension, had said Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms. The state weather bureau also noted that the tail-end of a cold front is affecting Mindanao. It also said Metro Davao may expect cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms on Monday, with temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. Also, PAGASA warned Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental may experience cloudy with light to moderate rains (1 to 7.5 mm/hour) on Sunday and Monday. — BM, GMA News
