Davao folk near rivers alerted for possible evacuation

Amid moderate to heavy rain before dawn Thursday, residents in parts of Davao City were alerted to prepare for possible evacuation.

The Davao City government said that with the rain, there was a "noticeable" increase in water level and speed of the Davao River.

"Moderate to heavy rains (are) being experienced all over Davao City. There is (a) noticeable increase in water level and speed of Davao River as monitored in Tamugan monitoring station. Barangays along and near the riverbank have been alerted," it said.

Davao was one of the areas that experienced heavy rain in the wake of Tropical Depression Crising, which is heading for Southern Palawan.

The Davao City government had been on alert since state weather forecasters on Wednesday night warned of possible rain on parts of Mindanao.

PAGASA at 11 p.m. Wednesday had warned of rain on Surigao, Davao, Caraga, Agusan, Compostela Valley, Misamis Oriental and Occidental, Bukidnon, Lanao Del Norte, and Lanao Del Sur.

"Residents in low-lying areas and disaster risk reduction and management councils are advised to be alert and take necessary precautionary measures for possible flash floods (or) landslides," PAGASA had advised.  — ELR, GMA News
