Bird strike cancels Cebu Pacific flight out of Tacloban

A bird strike forced the grounding of a Manila-bound Cebu Pacific flight at the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City Friday morning. No one was reported injured in the incident, although Cebu Pacific flight 5J-652 almost overshot the runway, radio dzBB reported Friday afternoon. The report said birds were sucked into the plane's engines as it was preparing to take off. A separate report on government-run Philippines News Agency said the incident occurred at 6:25 a.m. and that wild ducks were sucked into the engine. The pilot managed to stop the A-320 aircraft safely, but the technical crew had to inspect  the engine for possible damage. The dzBB report said the incident prompted Cebu Pacific to make appropriate travel arrangements for the affected passengers. — DVM, GMA News
