2GO passenger ship suspended, Marina inspector finds holes in hull

An inspector of the Maritime Industry Authority has recommended the cancellation of the safety certificate of a passenger vessel that nearly sank after sustaining a hull breach while en route to Iloilo last week.

 

The Iloilo-based The Daily Guardian reported Saturday that Marina Western Visayas Engineer Joseph Pador found  eight holes in the hull of the 2GO-owned MV Saint Gregory the Great,

 

Pador recommended the saftey certificate cancellation until the eight holes are patched up, the report said

 

The Marina Region 6 director, Mary Ann Armi Z. Arcilla, was quoted as saying that the ship will be drydocked for repairs and will not be allowed to resume commercial trips until it has complied with safety requirements.

 

“The 2GO management is cooperative in the investigation and they have not yet appealed to resume their trips,” Arcilla said.

 

Investigators from Marina’s Manila Enforcement Group will conduct a full investigation, the report said.
