Davao City included in 'expanded' Canadian travel advisory


A day after it repeated its warning to its nationals against traveling to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and nearby areas, Canada on Thursday also advised its nationals against traveling to Davao City. In an its update, Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development said, "DFATD advises against all travel to Davao City." (http://travel.gc.ca/destinations/philippines). It also maintained its advice against all travel to: - the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao) - Zamboanga Peninsula - Zamboanga del Sur - Sarangani - Lanao del Norte - Davao del Sur - North and South Cotabato - Sultan Kudarat Canada cited the "serious threat of terrorist attacks and kidnapping" for its advice. "Review your security situation and take appropriate precautions if you are visiting or living in this region, particularly when visiting places frequented by foreigners, such as resorts," it said. It added the Australian and United States embassies in Manila earlier halted all embassy staff travel to Davao City, Cotabato City and Zamboanga City until further notice. — DVM, GMA News
