Cop killed in anti-drug operation in Cavite

A policeman was killed while two lawmen were wounded in a botched anti-drug operation in Cavite province before dawn Monday.

The slain policeman was a Quezon City police officer with the rank of SPO3, who acted as an informant of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

Wounded were a PDEA agent and a member of the Southern Luzon police, initially identified as PO1 Leonard Sagayaporo.

Police suspect the targets of the anti-drug operation may have been tipped off, and ambushed the lawmen instead.

The shooting occurred in Barangay Molino in Bacoor City between 3 and 4 a.m.

An initial investigation showed the three victims were aboard a Vios-type sedan (TY-4984) and were waiting for their target in a sting operation when armed men aboard a white HiAce-type van backed up by motorcycles showed up.

The men then opened fire on the Vios with high-powered firearms including M-16 rifles and 9-mm and cal-.45 pistols. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
