Swimmers in the area were surprised to hear the noises made by the dolphin as it struggled to break free.
Resort personnel eventually managed to free the dolphin. The report noted the resort's owner, Sherwin Bugarin, is a volunteer of environment group Greenpeace.
But even beafter it was freed, the dolphin did not immediately leave - it even seemed to play with some of the swimmers until it was led to the deeper part of the waters.
Bugarin said many endangered species usually find their way to the Sta. Rita area.
Last month, these included a large pawikan and a pregnant shark. The shark died after giving birth.
Photos tweeted by Bacuño showed the dolphin trapped in the protection net and released.
