Two jail guards killed, two NPA rebels rescued in Surigao Del Sur ambush


Two jail guards were killed when suspected members of the New People's Army ambushed a vehicle of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Surigao Del Sur on Monday morning.

The initial report also showed that two detained NPA rebels were rescued following the attack. Three jail guards were also reported taken by the rebels.

The incident, according to the report, happened on the national highway in Barangay Amontay in Marihatag town.
 
A subsequent report said personnel of BJMP in Tandag City were taking the NPA inmates to Lianga town when they were ambushed "by [an] unidentified number" of NPA rebels.
 
A firefight erupted between the parties, leaving three BJMP men injured, as well as one of the inmates, Robert Rivas. The subsequent report said two BJMP personnel were abducted as well as one inmate.
 
Those wounded were taken to the Marihatag District Hospital and later transferred to Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in Tandag City, it added. -Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/NB, GMA News
