Chinese fishing vessel runs aground in Ilocos Norte town

A Chinese fishing vessel battered by strong winds and big waves from Tropical Storm Egay ran aground in Currimao town in Ilocos Norte early Monday, state-run Philippine Information Agency reported.

The PIA said strong waves pushed the vessel aground at Kadilian, in Barangay Torre before 7 a.m.

Coast Guard Currimao station commander Valerie Lagua said in the report that there was no sign of severe damage to the vessel.

One of the vessel's crewmembers was injured and treated at the town's health center.

The vessel was docked at the Currimao Port on July 3 and was heading for Vietnam when it encountered rough seas. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
