Floodwaters reach roofs of huts in Laoag

(Updated 11:06 p.m.) Some barangays in Laoag City experienced severe flooding on Friday, with some areas having water up to the roofs of huts due to heavy rain caused by Typhoon Ineng.

A report from GMA's “News TV Live” said the local City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has continuing rescue operations to aid residents who need help.

But some of the residents declined to be evacuated as they can't leave their pets behind. The Region 1 Office of Civil Defense earlier said a person had died and one went missing in Ilocos Norte.

The report also said a number of roads were flooded which prevented various vehicles from traveling on.

Aside from the floods, strong winds in the region resulted in fallen trees and displaced signages of commercial establishments.

Both Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte are experiencing rains because of typhoon Ineng, which is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday evening. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
