Sara Duterte prepares COC for Davao mayor, hints at dad's presidential run

(UPDATED 3:07 p.m.) Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Sara has prepared her certificate of candidacy for Davao City mayor, doing so a day after her father's submission for the same position.

On her Instagram account, the younger Duterte posted a photo of her COC, while hinting that her father would seek a higher post.

"Digong, gahulat ko sa imuha. To all my fellow Filipinos, you will make him President, otherwise, lagot kayo lahat sa akin. Tandaan niyo ang araw na ito. Wala kami pera, wala kami makinarya. #justDUit #Duterte2016 Honor thy father and thy mother," she wrote on the caption.

Clarifying earlier reports, she told GMA News that she only prepared the document, but has not yet formally filed it. She said she will do so if her father files for presidency.

After his representatives filed his papers for reelection on Thursday, the elder Duterte said he wasn't planning on making a surprise appearance in Manila to file his candidacy for president.

But the latest post from Sara, who had served as mayor of Davao from 2010 to 2013, has led to renewed speculation that her father would withdraw his candidacy go for the higher post.

Rodrigo Duterte has figured strongly in presidential preference surveys in the past few months, with supporters mobilizing to convince him to seek the top executive position.

Duterte had earlier said that Sara's opposition and her reluctance to run as Davao mayor again was a big factor in his lack of interest in the presidency.

But on Wednesday, Sara led several other supporters in shaving their heads in an effort to urge him to change his mind. --JST, GMA News
