Isabela town vice mayor shot dead by suspected NPA members

Re-electionist Jones Vice Mayor Ronnie Lucas was shot dead by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA), according to a report on GMA TV's “Saksi” on Wednesday.

Based on the initial investigation, Lucas was in Barangay Dicamay Dos when a group of armed men stopped them because they do not have a permit to campaign.

The armed men then told the companions of Lucas to go home, afterwhich they shot dead the vice mayor.

Maj. Gen. Lysander Suerte, 5th Infantry Division Commander, said, “I condemn the NPAs for their grave violation of Human Rights and the crimes committed against the people.”

“The criminal act is the result of the NPAs failure to push their non-sense armed struggle”, he added.

Capt. Edilberg Mendoza of the 86th infantry battalion confirmed that a hot pursuit operations against the suspects is underway.

Meanwhile, an explosion was reported in South Upi in Maguindanao as the convoy of the vice mayor, Remy Sioson, passed through the area. Sioson survived the slay try while his security escort and two companions were injured. — BAP, GMA News
