Tanay survivor: Bus No. 8 was only a replacement

One of the survivors in the deadly road accident in Tanay, Rizal said that the ill-fated Bus Number 8, which was owned by Panda Coach Tours and Travel Inc., was just a replacement of the Harana Tours bus that was initially assigned to them.

Gulat po kami iba po 'yung bus," survivor Raymund Pee said in Cesar Apolinario's report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

Pee also said there were folding chairs through the bus aisle. Upon hearing this, the mother of one of the 15 fatalities became furious.

"Ibig sabihin wala silang upuan? Tingan mo, magbabayad ka ng ganoong kamahal tapos chance passenger?" said Maria Fe Pepito, whose son Robert Kenneth died in the crash.

In a separate report by Cedric Castillo, Another surivor Anthony Melgarejo said they smelled burning rubber before the accident.

Jason Cristobal, a first year Information Technology student, said he heard an unfamiliar sound when the driver tried to hit the brakes.

—Anna Felicia S. Bajo/JST, GMA News
