Cebu road rage suspect claims being ‘threatened,’ cries self-defense

Road rage suspect David Lim Jr. shot a nurse several times during a traffic altercation in Cebu early Sunday morning in self defense because he felt "threatened."

A report on News To Go on Tuesday quoted Lim as recounting to police investigators that he was forced to pull over because the victim, Ephraim Nuñal, who was trailing his vehicle kept honking his horn along F. Sotto Street in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Lim was with his girlfriend, who was identified as Tamae Takahashi.

Lim said he decided to get out of the car to confront Nuñal, and the two ended up in a fist fight.

The suspect said he felt "threatened" by Nuñal because the nurse had a number of companions back in his car. Lim claimed he merely defended himself because Nuñez had threatened to hurt him.

Lim then returned to his car to retrieve his cal.-22 pistol and shot the victim four times in his feet and legs, before fleeing the scene with his companion.

A portion of the traffic altercation was caught on Nuñez's dashboard camera, as its video went viral on the internet. Lim's camp. however, claimed the video circulating online was incomplete.

The suspect's camp claimed having in possession another video showing Nuñez being accompanied by a number of companions.

Lim surrendered to the police early Tuesday at around 2 a.m. He was accompanied by his mother Bebong Lim, two other relatives, and his lawyer Atty. Jun Salatandre.

Lim had sent feelers through Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go before his surrender.

The suspect is the nephew of suspected drug lord Peter Lim, who was tagged by President Rodrigo Duterte as a major drug lord in the Visayas. Duterte later had a face-to-face meeting with the elder Lim.

In a separate report on Balitanghali, police officials were quoted as saying Lim would be facing frustrated homicide and illegal possession of firearms charges. — MDM, GMA News
