Concrete blocks fall from Taal Basilica during latest Batangas quake


Concrete blocks fell from the already damaged Taal Basilica in Batangas following an earthquake on Saturday afternoon.

In a video shared to YouScoop by Harris Austria, several people were heard screaming as pieces of concrete blocks fell from the Minor Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours in Taal town.

The church had been damaged by the magnitude-5.5 quake that struck the province last week.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded four earthquakes from 3:07 p.m. to 4:36 p.m.

The first two quakes measures at magnitude-6.0 and magnitude-5.6, both felt strongest at Intensity 7 in Mabini batangas.

The two quakes were also felt in several parts of Batangas and Metro Manila.

Intensity 6 - Calatagan, Nasugbu and Tingloy, Batangas
Intensity 5 - Batangas City, Sto. Tomas and Lemery Batangas; Tagaytay City
Intensity 4- Dasmarinas, Cavite: Lucena City; Pateros City
Intensity 3 - Makati City; Pasay City; Quezon City; Muntinlupa City; Malabon City;
Mandaluyong City; Bacoor, Cavite
Intensity 2 - Daet, Camarines Norte

The last two quakes, meanwhile, had no intensities, according to PHIVOLCS.

PHIVOLCS chief Renato Solidum had said that the quakes will not trigger a tsunami.

Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas said in a radio dzBB interview that they received minor damages following the quakes. He said they have yet to receive reports of injuries. —ALG, GMA News
