Sara hurls fresh tirade vs. NPA as fish vendor hurt in Davao attack dies

Fish vendor Larry Buenafe, who was injured in a recent attack by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao City, has died on Thursday, Mayor Sara Duterte said.

In her statement, Duterte grieved over Buenafe's death and launched fresh tirades against the NPA which torched a packing plant of Lapanday Foods Corp. in Davao City.

“It is a sad day for Davao City. I am sorry we lost Larry, a victim of delusional people living in an alternate universe who are now celebrating their so-called victory against oppression. But it is a celebration that means nothing except grief for the true victims,” she said.

“Larry was murdered by people who think that it will make a difference if they punish the Lorenzos by burning their factories,” she added, referring to the family that owns the food company.

Duterte said that instead of getting back at the owners of the food and packing company, the NPA ruined the lives of the people they were trying to protect.

“It did make a difference, but definitely not to the Lorenzos because their wealth is still there, tucked safety somewhere... The attacks, that so-called punitive actions to dispense social justice did make a blowing, heartbreaking difference — to a widow, to a daughter, to a son,” she said.

“It also did make a difference to the hundreds of employees of the company who lost their jobs. Larry and his family, the employees who lost their jobs and their families. Tthese are the true victims of those attacks. They are the ones punished by a shady group who claims to be the true army of the people,” she added.

“The attacks on Saturday and the death of Larry today should always remind us of the twistedness of an ideology and the monsters behind it, how they employ fear and terror in their attempt to cloak their insignificance and the obsolescence of their political belief,” Duterte continued.

However, the communist rebels also criticized the presidential daughter’s stand against the NPA as they pointed out that her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, was a legal counsel for Lapanday.

But the mayor argued that she was only condemning the NPA attack because one of her constituents was hurt.

Immediately after the attack over the weekend, Mayor Duterte blasted the NPA and branded the attack as a "personal insult." — MDM, GMA News
