NPA guerrilla killed in Oriental Mindoro clash


A New People's Army fighter was killed Sunday morning in an encounter with Philippine Army troops in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.

According to a radio dzBB report, security forces from the 4th Infantry Battalion responded to the tip from a concerned citizen on the presence of an NPA group in Barangay Cambunang.

Soldiers engaged at least 10 Red fighters in five-minute firefight around 5 a.m.

Citing military information, the report said the rebels fled, leaving behind the body of their fallen comrade. 

Troops recovered one 9mm pistol, live ammunition, and one hand grenade from the encounter scene.

No one was reported injured from the military's side, it said.

Second Infantry Division chief Maj. Roderick Parayno lauded his troops for their continuous operations against the NPA.

Parayno also called on the public to unite with the military's efforts in hunting down the communist rebels.  —Joseph Tristan Roxas/LBG, GMA News
