Building riddled with holes, house damaged due to intense fighting in Marawi

Buildings and houses have been destroyed in Marawi City as members of the ISIS-inspired Maute group have resorted to hiding in residential areas to avoid pursuing security forces.

In his Instagram posts, GMA News' Jun Veneracion shared a picture of a house in the city, riddled with holes as a result of heavy fighting between government forces and the local terror group.

One house was partially damaged, with a big hole on the roof, after a military air strike.

Veneracion reported that 19 civilians were occupying the damaged house, and fortunately no one was hurt.

During the "Mindanao Hour" at Malacañang on Monday, Armed Forces spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla assured that the military's priority in Marawi City is to secure its residents to "lessen collateral damage."

“Now, on the aspect of the safety guarantees that can be given to residents in the area… there are over 390 persons who have been rescued and that is a priority of the military, always, to lessen collateral damage, that means to say loss of innocent lives and damage to property,” he added. —ALG, GMA News
