More than 100,000 people internally displaced amid Marawi clash

More than 100,000 people have been displaced amid clashes between the military and Maute group members in Marawi City.

In a Balitanghali report by JP Soriano on Tuesday, data from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said as of 11 p.m. on Monday night, there were already 176,920 displaced persons or 35,784 families.

Meanwhile, the number of people stranded decreased after authorities have rescued more than 1,000 people.

The death toll on the other hand has breached the 100 mark, according to latest data from the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday.

AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla reported that a total of 65 Maute members and 20 more from the government side have been killed in the ongoing military operations in the city.

The number of civilians killed as of 6 p.m. of May 29 was still at 19.

Clashes began on May 23 in Marawi City after members of the Maute group attacked key areas of the city.
