At least 138 patients confined due to injuries from Leyte quake

At least 138 patients were confined in different hospitals following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck the island of Leyte on Thursday afternoon.

"As of last night, as of 10:30 p.m. there are about 138 patients na dinala natin sa ospital pero more than half of these na-check out na sa ospital. Isa 'yung namatay dahil sa landslide," Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Balita.

Two people were killed in Leyte—one fatality was in Kananga while the other died in a landslide in Ormoc.

Two barangays in Ormoc are still not passable for the public due to the landslide, Gomez said.

"Meron kaming tatlong mountain barangays na naapektuhan ng landslide. Two of them are not yet passable. 'Yung isang Barangay Cabaon-an is passable by foot lang," he said.

"Isa 'yung namatay dahil sa landslide. Nag'landslide, gumuho 'yung bahay, namatay 'yung isang babae, pero 'yung anak niya na five months old, na-save ito," he added.

Meanwhile, three major roads and a metal bridge in Ormoc were damaged due to the earthquake.

"Sa mga kalsada naman, there are three major roads dito sa Ormoc City na bumuka, pero passable pa rin 'yung kalsada. Pero kinakailangan dahan-dahan. Meron kaming metal bridge dito, bumaluktot din. Nag-S 'yung bridge. And then 'yung airport namin dito, closed 'yung operations nila dahil may mga crack sa runway," Gomez said.
