Dozens of students pass out after strong aftershock hits Ormoc


Dozens of high school students lost consciousness after a magnitude-5.4 aftershock struck Ormoc City on Monday morning.

GMA News' JP Soriano reported on radio dzBB that at least 50 students of the Ormoc City National High School collapsed following the strong aftershock, which was felt at Intensity 6 in the city.

Several ambulances and doctors rushed to the school to administer first-aid to the students.

Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez said some of the students were brought to the command post for emergency treatment.

"Pinapakalma ang mga bata sa command post," he said.

Majority of the students who collapsed where on the second floor of the school building when the aftershock struck.

One parent who rushed to the school following the aftershock said her child also lost consciousness and has a heart problem.

"Kasi mahina na kasi ang heart niya. Tapos noong nakaraang lindol, na-trauma sila kasi may mga estudyante kasi na umakyat sa pader nila kasi sabi may tsunami," she said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the aftershock struck at 9:41 a.m.

The aftershock was felt in Kananga town at Intensity 5.

It was also felt at Intensity 4 in Mayorga in Leyte, Tacloban City and Mandaue City; Intensity 3 in Loay and Jagna in Bohol and Cebu City; and Intensity 2 in Lapu-Lapu City and Cadiz City, Negros Oriental.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Sunday that two persons have been confirmed killed due to the earthquake and more than 300 were injured. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
