Suspected Abu Sayyaf member working as security guard at Zambo mall nabbed

The military on Saturday announced the arrest of two suspected Abu Sayyaf group members, including a security guard assigned at a mall in Zamboanga City.

Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson of the Armed Forces' Western Mindanao Command, identified the suspects as Ibno Moro and Abdulmubin Kudalat Salamuddin alias Mubin.

Petinglay said Salamuddin was arrested in Barangay Guiwan, Zamboanga City at around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

Salamuddin, currently a member of the Black Arrow security agency deployed in a mall in the city, yielded a fragmentation grenade.

Petinglay said Salamuddin was involved in the 2002 Sidapan kidnapping and a member of the group of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader RAdulan Sahiron.

She said Salamuddin was trained by Jemaah Islamiyah member Amin Bacho in bomb-making and was based in Sulu.

The suspect is also a suspected arms supplier of the Abu Sayyaf group in Sulu.

Meanwhile, members of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi and the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Police Office (PPO) arrested Moro in Barangay Kamabong in Bongao town at around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Petinglay said Moro is ranked 8th in the Tawi-Tawi PPO's most wanted list and involved in the following cases:

  • Massacre in Brgy Lapid-Lapid, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi in 1989
  • Kidnapping of Municipal Mayor Kuyoh Pajiji of Sibuto, Tawi-Tawi in 2004
  • Kidnapping of Alvin Chua at Chinese Pier, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi in 2002
  • Murder of Rodrigo Alejandro Sr. and his son Rodrigo Jr. at Brgy Buan, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi in February 2004
