Heavy rains cause flooding in Visayas, Mindanao; 8 rescued in Romblon river

Rain fell heavily and continuously in the past few days in Visayas and Mindanao, causing flooding in many areas.

Eight people, seven of them children, were rescued in Odiongan, Romblon after they were trapped along a river.

One of them said they were about to cross the river when the waters swelled and the current became strong.

Using a rope, rescuers guided each one across the river to safety.

In Barangay Udtong, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, meanwhile, some residents had no choice but to evacuate due to the rising floodwaters.

Farmers also said their crops were damaged by the floods.

The affected residents appealed for food and clean water.

Meanwhile, in Sultan Sabarongis, Maguindanao, floodwaters reached waist-level.

Residents fear the floodwaters may rise even further since the rains have not stopped.

Many motorists, on the other hand, were stranded in Upi, Maguindanao due to the flooding.

Residents also had to deal with thick mud in the aftermath of the flooding.

Meanwhile, in Zamboanga del Sur, heavy rains brought zero visibility on roads, making travel difficult for motorists.

Some vehicles conked out while traversing flooded areas.

It took three hours before the floodwaters subsided. —KG, GMA News
