Bird flu-infected towns in Nueva Ecija under state of calamity

Two towns in Nueva Ecija were placed under a state of calamity due to the spread of avian influenza in poultry farms.

A radio dzBB report said towns under a state of calamity were Jaen and San Isidro.

The Department of Agriculture have started culling thousands of fowls in the affected poultry farms with the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The avian flu spread in the two towns in Nueva Ecija came after an outbreak in Pampanga province, which had also been placed under a state of calamity.

A one-kilometer radius quarantine is already being implemented around poultry farms infected by the virus in Nueva Ecija.

After the initial outbreak in Pampanga, Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol barred the shipment of fowls from Luzon. —ALG, GMA News
