2 cops killed in attack in barangay outpost in Tanauan City

Two cops died and one person was injured when unidentified suspects fired shots at a barangay outpost in Tanauan City on Wednesday evening.

The fatalities were identified as Police Officer 3 Edgar Oba-ob and Police Officer 1 Ryan Cedric de Guzman who were assigned at the barangay outpost at the time of the incident.

The injured was identified as Abindio Valencia, a resident.

Based on initial information, the shooting incident occurred at the Tinurik PAC Base in Barangay Tinurik, Tanauan City at 10 p.m.

According to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday by Vonne Aquino, witnesses said two vans — a red and a white one — and one car arrived in the area. This was also caught on CCTV footage.

The red van parked in front of the barangay outpost and four armed men wearing bonnets went down the vehicle.

The suspects then fired shots at the three victims inside the barangay outpost.

The white van and the car served as back-up vehicles.

The suspects then fled in the direction of Barangay Natatas, Tanauan City.

The police officers died on the spot while Valencia, who was injured, was brought to the Laurel Hospital for treatment.

Recovered at the crime scene were five empty cal. -45 shells, eight shells of Armalite bullets, and two deformed slugs.

The chief of police of Tanauan City said Oba-ab and de Guzman were assigned to the outpost since May.

The cops are conducting an investigation into the incident to determine if the killing had any link to the police operation against illegal drugs.

They are also investigating the record of Oba-ab and de Guzman when they were with the Binangonan, Rizal Police prior to their current assignment.
