Suspected NPA members abduct 2 cops in Surigao

Suspected communist rebels have abducted two policemen in Placer, Surigao del Norte, the military said Tuesday.

Major Ezra Balagtey, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said they received information that two members of the Placer Municipal Police Station were abducted at 1:35 p.m. on Monday.

The names of the policemen are still being withheld by the authorities.

Balagtey said the two policemen were taken by at least 20 suspected New People's Army members while they were manning a police outpost at the public market of Barangay Brgy Bad-as.

Joint police and military groups have been deployed to pursue the rebels and rescue the two policemen. —ALG, GMA News
