Barangay chairman killed in Cebu ambush

Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot to death a barangay chairman in Liloan town in the province of Cebu on Thursday evening.

RGMA's Randy Gorion reported on Super Radyo dzBB early Friday morning that the shooting incident happened at 7:55 pm while the victim and his partner were on their way home to Barangay San Vicente in Liloan.

The report identified the victim Felicisimo Rupinta, who succumbed to two bullet wounds in his head.

His live-in partner, who was wounded in the arm during the ambush, said that the attackers—riding tandem on a motorbike—suddenly pulled shoulder to shoulder with their pick-up and opened fire.

Rupinta died later at a hospital, the report added.

Police are looking at illegal drugs or work-related grudge as possible motives for the crime, citing information that the victim had been suspended for not supporting the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency's anti-narcotic drive. —LBG, GMA News
