CHED condemns university president's killing in CDO
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Saturday condemned the killing of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTSP) president Dr. Ricardo Rotoras in Cagayan de Oro City.
"We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Rotoras and to the USTSP community, as we appeal to the authorities to exhaust all means to bring his perpetrators to justice," a statement from CHED Commissioner Prospero de Vera III said.
The CHED said said Rotoras was a "staunch, reliable and long-time ally of the Commission in its efforts to push for reforms in Philippine higher education."

The USTSP is demanding justice for the attack that took away their "dynamic, phronetic and inspiring leader," who was the university's president for 11 years.
Rotoras also served as president of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).
"Through his able leadership, PASUC has served as a critival collaborator of the Commission in advocating for greater support to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and shaping many of the stratergic reforms underway today," De Vera said.
"The Commission is one with the entire Philippine higher education sector in grieving the tragic and untimely loss of an esteemed partner," he added. —Margaret Claire Layug/ALG, GMA News
