4 hurt in NPA attack on Misamis Oriental town police station

Four policemen were wounded after members of the New People's Army attacked the municipal police station of Binuangan town in Misamis Oriental early Sunday morning.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Philippine National Police Region (PNP) 10 spokesperson Superintendent Lemuel Gonda said the four police personnel sustained minor injuries due to shrapnel from a rifle grenade.

The attack, which started at about 3:15 a.m., lasted for around 20 minutes.

"Then after that, yung tinawag na tactical movement. Putok dito, putok doon, naghihintay, pakiramdaman," he said.

According to Gonda, PNP 10 regional director Chief Supt. Timoteo Taclob has already directed all personnel of the police regional office to strengthen their target-hardening security measure in order to prevent a repeat of such incident.

Gonda said NPA guerrillas are planning attacks on municipal police stations.

"Before pa lang, nung peace talks pa lang, nag-declare na yung CPP-NPA-NDF ng offensive operation against the military and municipal police stations," he said.

"So ang hamon sa atin dito, dapat walang maatake kaya [pinapalakas] yung target-hardening security measures," he added.

Gonda had no idea if there were casualties on the part of the NPA.

A pursuit operation is ongoing to apprehend the NPA members who attacked the police station, Gonda said. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
