Fire totally consumes bus along NLEX

A passenger bus with at least 40 passengers caught fire along the southbound lane of North Luzon Expressway in Bulacan province early Tuesday.

A report on Unang Balita said that according to NLEX personnel, they received a call about a burning ES Transport bus unit at around 2:45 a.m. The fire was put out at around 3:15 a.m..

Bus driver Rodrigo Manlapas said the fire started from a rear tire. He said other drivers told him that the rear tire was on fire when he reached Bocaue area along NLEX.

Manlapas said he immediately told the bus passengers to evacuate and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, but to no avail.

The driver said the bus' brake lining could have overheated and started the fire.

The whole bus was consumed by the fire.

Netizen Mikko Bayani was able to take a video of the bus while being consumed by the fire, and shared it to YouScoop.

Authorities are investigating the incident. —ALG, GMA News
