Four people were injured in a firefight that erupted between feuding clans in Lanao del Sur on Friday afternoon, the military said Saturday.

An initial investigation showed that the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. in Barangay Gandamato of Bacolod Calawi town along the coast of Lake Lanao, military sources from Task Force Ranao said.

The incident also disrupted traffic in the area as the armed clash raged for an hour between factions of the Amanodin and Dipatuan Clans, sources said.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Jaafar Dipatuan told GMA News Online in a phone interview that one of his relatives was wounded in the clash. This was confirmed by Marawi City Police director Superintendent Abra Moxsir.

Also, the Vice Mayor claimed that from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. on Saturday, 32 grenades from M79  launcher landed in Barangay Poblacion.

Responding elements from the 65th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army were able to finally control the situation, the military said.

In a statement, Joint Task Force Ranao Commander Major General Roseller Murillo said that the Armed Forces will not tolerate of ridos (clan wars) and will continue to conduct law enforcement operations with the Philippine National Police as martial law in Mindanao is still in effect.

For his part, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Director Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares has ordered that police to monitor the movements of the warring families. —Jamil Santos with reports from Merlyn Manos and Mariz Revales/LBG, GMA News
