Palo, Leyte to name road after Pope Francis — CBCP

The local government of Palo, Leyte plans to honor Pope Francis by naming a road after him, the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines (CBCP) reported Tuesday.

During his five-day visit to the Philippines in 2015, the Pope traveled to Palo to commiserate with residents who lost their homes and loved ones to Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013.

According to the CBCP, local officials have recommended naming a newly completed, 3.66-kilometer west bypass road after the 81-year-old pontiff to commemorate his visit.

Officials are discussing the plan with government agencies and the Archdiocese of Palo, and a resolution will be submitted to the Palo town council for approval, the report added.
