Cops nab Maute widow in Cotabato City for rebellion


COTABATO CITY—Authorities in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao have arrested the alleged widow of a top Maute group leader on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Inspector Allan Uy, spokesperson of CIDG-ARMM, identified the suspect as Najiya Dilangalen Karon-Maute. 

She has been included in the arrest order number 2 of Department of National Defense dated June 5, 2017 for violation of Article 134 or rebellion.

Karon-Maute, a 37-year-old civil engineer and contractor was arrested at 2 p.m. at her residence at 23 Nayon Shariff, Barangay Rosary Heights 3 by members of the Police Regional Office in the ARMM, Cotabato City PNP and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-ARMM.

She is allegedly the widow of slain Maute-ISIS commander Mohammad Khayam Maute.

“This is part of the ongoing tactical interrogation being conducted at this moment and her role in the terror group” Uy said.

Families and lawyers of the arrested Maute have visited the suspect but they kept mum on the issue including the suspect.

The Maute brothers of Lanao Del Sur have links to another local terror group Abu Sayaff and have pledged allegiance to international terror group ISIS.

The Maute brothers, the Abu Sayyaff Group and foreign terrorists launched the attacked Marawi City on May 23, 2017 in an aim to install a regional Islamic caliphate in Asia.

The clashes lasted for six months and claimed more than a thousand lives including civilians, government troopers, bandits and their leaders. —NB, GMA News
