Mom caught on video abusing, threatening to burn kids

A mother's wrath was caught on camera as she threatened to burn her three children with candle wax inside their home in San Mateo, Rizal.

In a "24 Oras" report by Jun Veneracion on Wednesday, the 22-year-old mother was seen berating her children aged three and two, along with her youngest who was only 10 months old.

"Gusto mong masunog 'yung balat mo?... T— ina mo, uubusin ko 'to sa katawan niyo. Lumapit ka rito," the mother yelled as her unclothed children cried in fear and pain.

A concerned relative took the video and showed it to the father of one of the children, who then forwarded the complaint to social welfare.

"Upon reviewing the video, nag-decide ang team na talagang...immediate pull-out na to ensure the safety of the children from the abusive mother," said Nelia Dadulla, team leader of the San Mateo Social Welfare Action desk.

"As per initial investigation natin kahapon, when the MSWD and the DSWD and staff visited the place, emotionally unstable 'yung nanay," said legal officer Atty. Cyndy Mhae Medina.

Furthermore, their home located in the depressed areas of San Mateo was shared by 18 people.

As the video went viral on social media, San Mateo municipal health officer Dr. Maria Amado-Sochaco asked the public not to be quick to judge the mother.

"Papasok po ito sa ating category ng postpartum psychosis, isang kondisyon na nagkakaroon ng abnormalidad sa pag-iisip ng isang babaeng nanganak," she said.

"Maaring makapag-trigger nito ay nagkaroon siya ng matinding pagsubok sa buhay like kahirapan, pang-aabuso o emosyonal na problema," she added. —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
