Boatman arrested after alleged rape of 2 Slovakian tourists

A 30-year-old boatman was arrested after allegedly raping a Slovakian tourist and attempting to do the same to another in El Nido, Palawan, Junfred Calamba of RGMA Palawan reported on Monday.

Calamba said in a report on "Dobol B sa News TV" that suspect Romulo Arnosa was charged with rape and attempted rape by the Philippine National Police of Palawan.

El Nido Police Chief Inspector Rodel Lota said Arnosa was a crew member of the boat "Sweet Madonna" that the 26- and 28-year-old Slovakian victims boarded with their fiancés.

Lota disclosed that the incident took place while the women and their fiancés were drinking on Cadlao Island, where they went camping.

Arnosa took advantage of the women's inebriated state and their fiancés' absence to perpetrate the crimes.

The women were able to immediately relay the incident to police, leading to the suspect's quick arrest.

Arnosa is currently detained at the Palawan Provincial Jail (PPJ) and will be at court later on Monday for the preliminary hearing of his case.

Palawan's provincial government took in the victims to give them necessary aid and counseling. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
