Nineteen people have been confirmed killed after a passenger bus fell off a cliff in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday evening.

Police Regional Office 4-B (Mimaropa) spokesperson Superintendent Imelda Tolentino said a Dimple Star bus unit with plate number TYU 708 was on the Patrick Bridge at the boundary of Barangay Batong Buhay and Barangay San Agustin, when its driver, Arno Panganiban, who was also among the fatalities, lost control of the vehicle.

The bus hit the bridge's side railing and fell off the cliff. The accident happened at around 9:30 p.m..

Twelve other fatalities have been identified as:

  • Teresita Dupagan
  • Elizabeth Dela Cruz
  • Marciano Ramos
  • Virginia Ramos
  • Erwin Ebienga
  • Lolita Bayle
  • Lea Borlado
  • Anselma Gomez

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it will issue a preventive suspension order on the bus company pending the authorities' investigation.

The suspension order, which normally lasts for at least 30 days, would prevent Dimple Star buses from plying their usual routes. —with Amita Legaspi and Peewee Bacuño/BAP/KG/LBG/ALG, GMA News
