25 dead, 56 hurt in Holy Week drowning, vehicular accidents —NDRRMC


A total of 25 people were reported killed and 56 more were injured in Holy Week vehicular accidents and drowning incidents, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Sunday night.

In its report on April 1, the NDRRMC said it recorded a total of 14 incidents of drowning in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Cordillera Autonomous Region and 12 vehicular accidents in Ilocos, Calabarzon, and CAR.

Based on the report, majority of the fatalities were victims in drowning incidents.

Majority of the incidents were recorded on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, when most people are out on the road travelling or in beaches.

Of the 26 total incidents recorded by the NDRRMC, 17 happened in Calabarzon.

Of the 17 incident recorded in Calabarzon, nine were vehicular accidents and eight were drowning incidents. —ALG, GMA News
